Originally from New Zealand, Burns is Professor of bassoon at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Yamaha Performing Artist. He is an active performer playing principal in the Asheville Symphony, North Carolina Opera and North Carolina Ballet as well as chamber music in the Blue Mountain Ensemble, Eastwind Ensemble, and Forecast Music.
