Additional Info: Whether a casual player, or dreaming of a music career, excel with bassoon lessons tailored to you!

My students are among the finest middle and high school bassoonists in California. They’re regularly selected to All-State, All-Southern, All-County, and All-District Honor Bands & Orchestras—and are the top players in their school bands and youth orchestras. Some go on to major in music and are accepted to prestigious music colleges. Most simply enjoy music!

My teaching methods help accelerate learning so that you may progress quickly. I specialize in solutions to body mechanics and bassoon alignment problems that are often hidden—but impeding tone, technique, and progress. I also have many creative solutions to help you learn difficult passages.

Opportunities unique to my studio:

1) Because of my membership with the Music Teachers Association of California, you may choose to participate in Certificate of Merit (CM).

2) You may also perform in studio bassoon recitals, and I accompany you on piano.

3) When advanced, you may perform in the Bazooka Blasters! Bassoon Band which I conduct.

I teach bassoon at studios in Poway and El Cajon, California. I also serve on the adjunct faculty of Point Loma Nazarene University; coach woodwinds at numerous middle schools and high schools in the San Diego area; and conduct the Bazooka Blasters! Bassoon Band.

I recently presented a session at the Southern California Band & Orchestra Association Conference (SCSBOA), entitled "Double Reeds: Eliminating the Mystery." I'm also the woodwinds chair for Certificate of Merit (CM) of the San Diego Branch, MTAC. In 2006 I revised the CM Bassoon Syllabus, and recently finished a 2nd revision for 2012.

Previously, I taught band and choir in North Dakota; band and orchestra with the San Diego Unified School District; and chamber music at Mira Costa College in Oceanside.

As a former member of the Grossmont Symphony, and the TICO Orchestra, I was a featured soloist performing Weber’s Andante and Rondo Ongarese, and Concerto in F Major.

I've performed as a substitute bassoonist with the San Diego Opera, the San Diego Symphony Pops, the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, and Starlight Theatre. I've also played with The Moody Blues, and with Michael Crawford while on tour in San Diego!

I earned a Master of Music Degree in Bassoon Performance from The University of Michigan; a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education from Minnesota State Moorhead; and attended The Music Academy of the West. My bassoon teachers have incuded Ruth Dahlke, Darryl Durran, Arlen Fast, Dennis Michel, Bob Williams, and Hugh Cooper.

In 2008, I was honored to return to the University of Michigan to perform in a bassoon quartet as part of the Memorial Recital for Hugh Cooper.
