Additional Info: Jolene Masone is an engaging and enthusiastic young artist, devoted to the artistry of new music.

She began her musical career at the age of four after begging her parents for piano lessons. When she was six years old, she told her parents she wanted to be a concert pianist. After competing in the young piano world, by middle school, she was sitting in the front of the band as first flute, and enjoyed trying and learning other instruments. At the age of 14, Jolene was introduced to the bassoon by her high school band director, and took to it quickly. After graduating from high school, Jolene attended the University of Northern Colorado. There she received a bachelor degree in music education and performance under bassoonist and pedagogue, Dr. Charles Hansen. Jolene participated in the University Bands and the Downbeat Award Winning University Symphony Orchestra at UNC. Jolene has continued her enthusiasm for the bassoon with teacher Philip Kolker at the Peabody Institute where she participates in the Peabody Symphony and Concert Orchestras. Jolene is an avid chamber musician, and works hard to glean music from many different composers, and enjoys forming different groups to perform with. She is currently in the process of putting together a concert of inventions for Trumpet and Bassoon. She is also the co-founder of Two Reeds, Inc., an organization in Maryland devoted to improving the community awareness and improvement of double reed music, education, and chamber activities. In her spare time, Jolene enjoys playing frisbee, cooking, and youtube surfing.
