For the past 6 years, Ms. Hentz has taught privately aspiring music students from ages as young as five to adult students. She has a comprehensive background in the performing arts and has studied with such masters as Mark Popkin (Principal Bassoonist of the Metropolitan Opera in New York & author of The Art of Reed Making) and Malcolm Crawford (performing artist). In her youth she was a member of the Alabama Youth Symphony, Sewanee Summer Music Festival (Tennessee), and Brevard Music Center Festival (North Carolina). During her high school years, she was awarded honors in musical excellence at various University Honor Bands and All-State Competitions. She is currently working with local schools including; Liberty Park Middle, Oak Mountain Middle, Pizitz Middle, Shades Valley High, and Vestavia High School teaching; bassoon, piano, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone and clarinet. She holds dual degrees from the University of Alabama in the College of Human Environmental Sciences and The School of Arts and Sciences. During her years at UA she performed in many ensembles most recognizable are the Alabama Wind Ensemble and University of Alabama Million Dollar Band. Most recently you can find her performing with the Tuscaloosa Wind Ensemble and the Red Mountain Chamber Orchestra. Her method of teaching is based on the belief that every child learns differently, making their lesson unique to them and most importantly having fun while learning! |
